“There’s someone here
who wants to speak to you.”
so begins the lesson,
so begins the tears,
parental contract,
bargain wth ourselves,
promises snatched away from,
the entente cordial of our life.

“One small step for man,
one giant leap for mankind”
so being first has more importance,
so how has this helped mankind?
proud achievement,
apogee drawn in ink,
now the descent begins,
back to earth for more small steps.

“October 1805, a fatal gunshot rings out,
Kiss me Hardy”
so soon he’s gone,
so the hero of Britain sails away,
enigma loved,
histories binary black and white,
only hard or soft treating of subjects,
flare of artistic critic commenting on ages past.

“I have a dream that one day
this nation will rise up and live…”
so echoes cross these years,
so still is it to be achieved,
vision chased,
singular moments when a pinnacle,
arises speaks and lays down their life,
resounding peeling bells not quieted.

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick. “
so pass two millennia and we are upside down,
so we contort to deny our true-selves,
hand out-stretched,
each generation superior to the past,
disregarding possibilities laid out before them,
when there are so many here!
who wish to speak to us, in love.

“There’s someone here who wants to speak to you.” – Ellie Smith was woken in the wee hours of Thursday morning to hear a policeman speak these words, before putting her just-rescued child Cleo on the phone line. SMH.
So many good and great go before us, achieving many things – but today a lost child was found, oh happy day indeed. She was found on the 3rd of November I think. How many of us cried with joy!
